BUS TRAVEL REGULATIONS Away meet bus trips - You must go on bus or have your parents bring you to the meet. ALL OTHER transportation options are not acceptable except with written or Coach phone
It is VERY important that you arrive at the school so the bus can leave when scheduled. The bus will leave for evening away meets at Woburn @ 3:45 pm.
Eating and drinking during the meets. You cannot consume food or flavored drinks inside any field-house. If I observe you doing either I will first warn you. A second offense will result in suspension from the team for a period of time up to one week. However you may have and consume H2O from a water bottle. We risk the possibility of permanently losing our privilege to use these facilities, so this is a BIG deal.
Keep me informed about what is going on with you during the season. The very best way is to email me a note. I need to plan the meet line-ups and in some cases need to send in entries weeks ahead of the race date.
Varsity vs sub varsity competition. A varsity athlete carries the greatest degree of responsibility. When your level of performance warrants it, you will be entered in varsity level competition and my expectation is that you will find a way to fulfill that team responsibility. Sub varsity performers will be entered in varsity level races when I think you are competitive and can help the team at the varsity level. You play a very important role in giving the team depth and experience when called up to compete. I will always try to give you a few days notice regarding race expectations.
Meet limits and available races: dash and hurdles - 3@Lex and Reading, 4@ all other league meet sites, sub varsity unlimited in both; 300m - 3@RLTC 4@ all other sites;400m sub varsity only - unlimited; 600m 3@ all sites, sub varsity unlimited; 1000m and I mile - unlimited but I set team restricts to insure a race field that is generally competitive; 2 mile - 3 or 4 depending on race site I generally enter 3; High jump and Shot Put limited to 4 entries; relay restricted to one team of four.
NUMBER - Your number is for all league meets so keep it safe until the end of the season. If you forget your number see me before the meet starts. USE 4 PINS TO SECURE NUMBER.
PACING RULES - You can only cheer from a stationary position outside the track.
TAUNTING - Be a good sports person. - You may cheer for a competitor from another team but if you gesture or say anything of a derogatory nature you will be disqualified by meet officials if a varsity competitor or Coach Crosby if a sub varsity competitor.
SWEARING - If you swear, even under your breath, during or after a competition you will be disqualified. If, as your coach, I hear and think I understand the swear you uttered, I will call for your disqualification regardless of whether an official is within hearing range.
The CLERK of the MEET - Varsity competitors will be given an entry slip for their event. There will be one slip and any of the entrants into that event may approach and turn it in to the CLERK of the MEET. This is called checking into your event. It is critical that you listen for "THE CALL" for your event and make sure you get the entry slip from Coach Crosby or Coach Tremaine and turn it into the CLERK of the MEET in a timely fashion. Being out of the arena or in the girls room does not constitute an excuse for not turning in the entry slip. Remember, anyone entered in the event may turn in the entry slip. Check the slip and make sure it is correct before you turn it. By this I mean the names and numbers are correct and all Lexington athletes are present and planning to compete.
THANK YOU COACH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY, I WILL DO MY BEST! - I will from time to time enter you into an event that you have not previously or only infrequently attempted. I expect your response to be, "THANK YOU COACH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY, I WILL DO MY BEST!" When I do this I only expect your best effort, I do not anticipate or demand any specific result, I never will demand a specific result only your most thoughtful and determined competitive effort. Keep in mind that great things can only be achieved through a willingness to attempt new and difficult things.
APOLOGY - Along with this I am very uncomfortable when you apology for a competitive effort. My assumption is that you gave your best effort so do not apologize to me. If you let your teammates down by wearing jewelry, not paying attention or acting childish and getting disqualified then direct your apology to your teammates not me.
SAFETY during meets and practice. It is critical that you practice "SAFE TRACK and FIELD". The most critical safety consideration on the track is to step into the path a speeding runner, speeding jumper or into the path of a "shot put throw". During a meet exercise extreme caution when near the track. The best place for you during a meet is outside the oval. In fact you are generally not allowed inside the oval except to report and prepare to race. Indoor meets are held in tight arenas and it is extremely important that you act appropriately at all times.
During practice make sure you never walk or jog in lanes 1 or 2. These lanes are reserved for faster runners. Jog in lane 3 and walk in lane 3 or 4. Never walk across the area where high jumpers are practicing or shot putters are throwing!! IT ONLY TAKES ONE THOUGHTLESS ACTION TO RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.
UNIFORMS - Find and read the rules regarding uniforms and jewelry.
